This week of Thanksgiving, Americans are taught from an early age to be grateful: loving families, food, housing, education, health, all this and more that are taken for granted, except on the fourth Thursday of November.
The daily ritual of living normal lives becomes mundane, humdrum or even boring. Everyone wants something different or exciting and there are those lucky enough to be able to plan vacations, change jobs or move to their dream location until these diversions become the expected and yes mundane.
But what happens when the pendulum swings the other way, and small or large catastrophes happen such as sickness or job loss, the mundane rituals of life can become becomes what is wished for the most.
So as this month of Thanksgiving comes to a close, remember to be thankful for the norm. And when those small setbacks or larger tragedies happen and now this is your new reality, can you come out the other side with acceptance and strength or will you always be comparing what was to what is.
In the new year, the topic of pivoting will be an ongoing theme.
